Kamaka are one of the highest quality ukuleles around. This is evidenced by the fact that Jake Shimabukuro, arguably the best ukulele player in the world, plays one. As well as being one of the finest ukulele makers around, they are also the most venerable. The company was established by Samuel Kamaka in 1916. Kamaka had been apprentice to one of the original ukulele makers, Manuel Nunes, before he set off to establish his own company.

Kamakas cross three main time periods. Early Kamakas tend to be very highly sought after and, as a result, are quite expensive. And the new Kamaka ukuleles are also expensive because of the high specifications they are built to. However, the middle period (the gold and white label period ukuleles) tend to be more affordable.
