Resonator ukuleles are those with a metallic cone instead of a traditional sound-hole. This gives the ukulele a much greater volume and a more forceful tone. They have found favour with a number of professionals, most notably Bob Brozman and Del Ray (whose video you can see above).

The most sought after resonator ukulele is the National. These vintage instruments and command a high price tag. Which has meant that new companies, such as Johnson, have moved into making resonators at a cheaper price.
